Articles

The Library has a range of online services that will enable you to locate journals, reports and newspaper articles on a chosen topic. Guides to individual resources may be downloaded below.

Particularly relevant resources include:

Ebsco CINAHL - articles in nursing, midwifery and allied health. Download a Quick Guide to CINAHL or a CINAHL Workbook.
Finding the Evidence  - A guide to developing a search strategy has written by Fran Wilkie of Manchester NHS.  
Google Scholar - you can use Advanced Scholar Search and Scholar Preferences to make your search more focussed.
LexisNexis - includes full-text newspapers.
Medline
Proquest Nursing Journals - collection of full text journals in nursing and allied health
PsycInfo - articles in psychology including clinical and health psychology.
ScienceDirect - collection of full text journals in health and science.
SportDiscus - articles in sport and exercise, including health promotion and sports medicine.
Web of Knowledge- includes Web of Science.
Zetoc - British Library Electronic Table of Contents service.
 

Electronic journals by title

If you know the title of a journal or magazine use the electronic journals list to find out if you can view the full text of the journal online

Print journals

You can use the library catalogue to search for the titles of print journals held by the University. Print journals which are available on the Shrewsbury site are listed in the Shropshire Health Libraries Catalogue.

Electronic books

DawsonERA - full text books 
ebrary - full text books. Download a Quick Start Guide to ebrary.
Oxford Reference Online: Medicine - collection of full text resources including "Oxford Companion to the Body", "An A-Z of medicinal Drugs" and "Oxford Companion to Medicine".

Printed books

You can use the library catalogue to search for specific titles or books by an author. You can also search by author, title or general keywords. There is a link to the library catalogue and more information about borrowing books and using other library services on the library home page. Books which are available on the Shrewsbury site are listed in the Shropshire Health Libraries Catalogue.

Referencing and bibliographies

RefZone - Helping you to Reference
RefZone will help you with all your referencing needs throughout your studies at Staffordshire University. You should also consult your study skills handbook or assignment details to ensure that you are using the referencing style required by your subject area.

RefWorks
RefWorks is an online bibliographic management tool that helps you save references and create bibliographies. There is an online tutorial within the RefWorks program, or you can download the RefWorks Quick Start Guide to help you get started.
 

Usernames and passwords

Most online resources use your University Username and Password to authorise access. On campus you will be recognised automatically when you logon to a PC. You should only be asked to login when you are off campus. To do this you will need the details of your student Username and Password:

*Username = First part of your University email address i.e. 2 letters & 6 numbers
*Password = your date of birth as 6 digits i.e. ddmmyy (unless you have changed this)

Note: When using some online resources, you may be asked to enter the details of your University ATHENS account - this is the same username and password as your University logon details above.

Off-campus students and distance learners

The library provides a range of services for off-campus users including:

UK Postal Loans of Library Books
Document Delivery Service British Library requests for materials not available at Staffordshire University
Access to other UK Libraries

NHS Staff and Students on Clinical Placement

NHS staff will also have access to their local NHS library plus a range of clinical databases and journals which are available electronically. Students may also register to use NHS resources when they are on clinical placement. An NHS Athens username and password is required.
