Finding resources

Articles

The Library has a range of online services that will enable you to locate journals, reports and newspaper articles on a chosen topic. A full list is available on our e-resources page

Particularly relevant services for your subject  include:

ArtFulltext indexes articles in the Arts generally, many of which are full text. An introductory podcast explains how to access and offers tips on finding articles useful for your assignments:

Design and Applied Artsindexes articles only, there is no full text.  A "check for it" icon will automatically run a search for you to tell you whether there is an electronic or print copy available in our stock.

JSTOR An archival collection of full text articles.  Note that none of the articles will be current.

Google Scholar  indexes the full text of scholarly literature across an array of publishing formats and disciplines. Because most of Google Scholar's search results link directly to commercial journal articles, you may find that you will only be able to access a brief summary of the articles topics. If you cannot access the article check to see if the University has a subscription to the journal by going to our e journals listing

Lexis Nexis Provides full text of newspapers

Mad.co.uk Provides full text articles, reports and trends in design, marketing and advertising including articles from Creative Review, Design Week, Marketing Week, In Store and Data Strategy.  You will need to register from the Library Link provided the first time you use it to obtain your username and password.

MINTEL Provides full text market research reports

WARC  Provides full text case studies, reports, satistics etc for the world of marketing

Web of Knowledge  An index to articles covering all disciplines.

Electronic journals by title

We have produced a detailed guide to Graphic Design journals, and you can link to the online versions by clicking on any of the titles that are available electronically. If you know the title of a journal or magazine use the electronic journals list

Print journals

Many of the titles that are recommended in your area are only available in paper copy. Here is a link to the Graphics periodicals that we subscribe to:

Electronic books

You can access electronic books using the e-books link from the library web pages. You will find e-books by using the resources listed below.

DawsonERA - full text books
ebrary - full text books

Safari - full text of technical manuals on different types of software e.g. Photoshop

Printed books

You can use the library catalogue to search for specific titles or books by an author. You can also search by author, title or general keywords. There is a link to the library catalogue and more information about borrowing books and using other library services at Library

You can look for books on the shelves in your subject area.

DVDs and other media

Don't forget that we have a collection of DVDs on Level 1 of the Library that you may find useful.  They are arranged in class mark order so you can either search on our catalogue or browse the collection.  It is possible to do a keyword search on our catalogue and use the Limit by box to refine your results by your chosen format.  Be careful when using this facility as if your search is too specific you will not get any results.

BoB (Box of Broadcasts) - This TV scheduling service allows you to record, retrieve and stream TV and radio programmes, in a similar way to BBC's iPlayer. BoB stores recorded TV and Radio programmes in an archive indefinitely for all users to enjoy. Users can record programmes, watch programmes from the archive, create clips, compile their favourite shows into playlists and share these with others.
